("Henry George") 6 1/2" x 4 1/4", by the Charles B. Schaidner studio of New York, with his name printed under image, bust portrait of George in right profile. Signed and inscribed on verso with sentiment to Miss Ada Langley with regards of Henry George. 1889 (month is blurry) N.Y. Very good. Henry George (1839-1897), born September 2, 1839; died October 29, 1897; an American political economist and the most influential proponent of the "Single Tax" on land, also known as the land value tax. He was author of Progress and Poverty, 1879. In 1886, now a popular writer and speaker, he ran for Mayor of New York City, he did not win; he ran for Mayor again in 1897, but died four days before the election.
