Slim 4to., engr. frontis. portrait of Robert 1st Earl of Winton, Lady Margaret Montgomerie Countess of Winton and Lady Isabella Seton, Countess of Perth, engraved plate of Seton Chapel, engr. plate of genealogy, engr. facs. plate of the MS. on India Paper, mounted, pp. xiii, [1] blank, 64, orig. brown paper covered boards, rebacked, ex-library. [The style of the binding at first seems to indicate a Bannatyne Club publication as it is identical to other productions of the Club. However, it is not listed anywhere as such and is not printed on Club paper. The Maitland Club published 'The history of the house of Setoun to the year MDLIX.' by Sir Richard Maitland in l830 and 100 copies of this were printed for the Bannatyne Club. This contained 132 pages after the prelims., and interestingly had the same frontis. as the copy above and also the same engraving of Seton Chapel. The unknown editor of the 1830 work notes 'The text of this volume is printed from a manuscript in the possession of Mr. Hay of Drummelzier. In numberless instances it differs from the pedigree lately printed [i.e. the Maitland Club volume] and contains various notices, which Sir Richard Maitland, or Lord Kingston, thought proper afterwards to omit.' The Maitland Club work was printed from 'two Manuscripts belonging to the Library of the Faculty of Advocates.' Although the two works were based on different manuscripts there must have been some collusion by the editors or publishers to explain the same two plates appearing in both works.].
