4to (29.5 x 23 cms; 11.6 x 9 inches). [4], vi-xxviii, 737, + 118 plates. Half bound in morocco and textured green cloth; the spine missing. Top edge tinted dark (perhaps dark green: it's hard to tell); other edges tinted light red. Title page in red and black. Frontispiece and 117 other plates; many other illustrations (a headpiece illustration and tailpiece vignette to each chapter). Edited by J W Clark; biographical notice of Cervantes by T Teignmouth Shore. The text is the translation of Jarvis (first published 1742), "with occasional corrections from Motteaux' translation. A few objectionable words and sentences, in no way necessary to the beauty and completeness of the work, have been omitted." Not dated. Doré's illustrations first appeared in a French translations of Don Quixote; Cassell published this English version in parts between 1864 and 1867 before issuing it in book form in 1867, thereafter reissuing it several times, each time undated. The text block of this version is smaller than that of the earliest versions, but a publication date of 1880 is only a guess. CONDITION: Binding poor, text block fair to good. The boards heavily scuffed; the spine missing. The text block firm and square with no missing, loose or torn leaves. There is however some foxing and occasional grubbiness affecting many of the pages, including the title page. Two pages and one plate have offset lettering, not from an adjacent page but from some external source: in one case the words "Slack's Silver Electro Plate" - not reversed - are legible; other lettering is too faint to read. This is a heavy book and will require additional postage. Bestandsnummer des Verkäufers 000518

Anbieterinformationen
I normally use Royal Mail. Shipping rates are based on the cost of sending a 1kg parcel or, for two books, a 2kg parcel. Two rates are quoted. These are: for the UK, Royal Mail's first class post (for priority service) and second class post (for standard service); for the rest of the world, Royal Mail's international standard rate (for priority service) and international economy rate (for standard service).
Books are normally placed in a plastic sleeve, bubble-wrapped, and mailed in purpose-made book boxes, although I may sometimes use padded envelopes for small paperbacks.
The "international rate" applies only to continental Europe and Eire. If you live elsewhere postage costs for the priorty service will be higher (the standard service rate however applies to all oveerseas countries).
Book sizes are given in centimeters, to the nearest half centimeter, and refer to the text block, not the binding.
