3 Antique prints, titled: 'East Coast of England & Scotland Pilot, […] 1. The River Thames […] 2. The East Coast of England […] 3. The East Coast of England and Scotland […].' - A set of three highly detailed coastal charts of England and Scotland. Map 1: The estuary of the River Thames and the area north towards Orford. With two insets: the Thames towards London and 'Approach to Harwich'. Map 2: the east coast of England, from Orford to Bridlington. With four insets: 'Yarmouth & Lowestoft Roads', 'Continuation of the River Humber', 'Bridlington Bay' and 'Mouth of the River Humber'. Map 3: the coast of England and Scotland from Bridlington north to the Orkney Islands. With five insets: 'Sunderland', 'Peterhead', 'Leith', 'Hartlepool' and 'River Tyne'. Each of the maps shows detailed depth soundings along the coast, and the locations of shallows, rocks and lighthouses (coloured dots). Some coastal profiles are given, as well as outlines of lighthouses and geographical features. A cautionary notice (printed in red) is pasted onto the second map, as is the inset Yarmouth & Lowestoft Roads. Published by James Imray & Son, 1879. Blue-backed set, joined together. These type of charts are scarse as they were actually used at sea for navigation. Engraving on wove paper. Made by an anonymous engraver after 'James Imray & Son'. Good, given age. Original folds, as issued. All three maps a little browned in the middle fold. Some scattered stains and soiling in the margins and image area. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully. The overall size is ca. 104.5 x 69.5 cm. The image size is ca. 101.5 x 65.5 cm.
