An early lithographed map with attractive hand colouring and inset descriptive text on the Marquesas in French.Fine unmarked condition. Centre fold as issued, printed on heavy grade wove paper, blank verso. Please see close up image.Approx. 20" x 18" (510 mm x 470mm) map area only, with good margins beyond. Phillipe Vandermaelen (1795 -1869) was a Belgian cartographer of some note and he published the large scale six volume Atlas Universel in 1827.
