Two adjoining colour printed paper maps each 147x105cm. Very good, neatly folded with some foxing, a couple of small patches of scuffing to the K-6A image. Both compiled by Mapping and Charting Establishment, Royal Engineers (MPC (RE)): K-6A in Nov 1971 with air information current to 15 Nov 1971, reprinted by DMAAC 7-72; and K-6B in 1972 with air information to 12 Dec 1972, printed 1/73. K-6A features most of North Yemen up to Sana'a and Shibam with much of its Red Sea coast, and a significant part of South Yemen including Aden along the coast to Mukalla. It also includes small parts of Saudi Arabia ("The boundary between Saudi Arabia and Yemen is not defined"), and FTAI (Djibouti) across the Bab el Mandeb. K-6B continues eastward along the South Yemen coast from Mukalla to Al Ghaydah, with the neighbouring islands of Socotra, "The Brothers", and Abd al Kuri (SE). These Cold War maps date to the aftermath of the North Yemen Civil War, following Saudi and Egyptian withdrawal, President Eryani's consolidation of power and incorporation of royalists into the Republican government excepting the former ruler Imam Badr's family. Border wars continued in 1972 including one in Summer which ended in an unrealised declaration to unite North and South Yemen. Highly detailed with colour tints for altitude, contours, spot heights, notes about terrain, and a glossary. Very large areas are marked with "Relief data incomplete" with the rough guesstimates "Maximum elevations believed not to exceed 5000 [or] 6000 [or] 7000 [or] 8000 feet" (5,500 feet on Socotra), and long lines demarcating areas as "Limits of reliable relief information", "Limits of reliable information", "Limits of distorted surface information". Other details include various grades of road and track, ruins, wells, etc. Aeronautical information includes major and minor aerodromes, alignment of runways, vertical obstructions, power lines, radio aids, and Prohibited, Danger and Caution Areas. On these sheets, the latter are few, mainly applying to the airport at Aden (formerly RAF Khormaksar) which the USSR was using as a Naval Aviation base.
