Attractive and desirable early 19th century antique engraved folio sheet map with beautiful original full hand color. Fascinating details within Africa, including a supposed island of Meroe in Nubia, a giant Lake of Dembrea with the Kingdom of this name, numerous small scattered Kingdoms, a capital of shepherds whose Queen lives their, Nile source mountains which correspond to the apocryphal Mts. of the Moon, etc. Surface of map displays some scuff/ "pull" damage due to small old adhesions (down centerfold right and within the Indian Ocean area) removing some of the engraved printed surface. Still maintains a fine age patina and visual appeal. Original center fold as issued. Sheet measures c. 21 3/8" H x 24 5/8" W. Printed area measures c. 18" H x 20" W.
