This is a beautifully executed lithograph hand colored at the time of publication. The map shows Illinois in great detail as suggested by the subtitle including sources for the compilation. Every township is finely detailed. Railroads dominate the landscape as they criss cross the state. Each county is dramatically shown in finely applied alternating colors. county and town population figures are listed.This is one of the best maps for the post-Civil War period that was included in an atlas.
