South Africa.(Old Maps, 19th Century Maps, Africa, South Africa, Cape Colony, Orange Free Sovereignty, Cape Town). Issued c. 1848-54, Edinburgh, A & C Black. Engraved by J Bartholomew. Mid 19th century lithographed map with hand color. Of note for the naming of the large and short-lived 'Orange Free Sovereignty" which only existed 1848-54. Inset top center only shows one large large south of the Equator within the eastern interior. Paper and image remains clean and well preserved with a fine patina and visual appeal, two short edge splits along bottom nicely closed on reverse with archival tape. Original center fold as issued.
