Derrick Greaves silkscreen signed and dated 1984 by the artist in pencil. The print is numbered 17 of 75 copies and is printed on thick hand made wove paper with an embossed K in lower right corner of the sheet. The K indicates that it was printed by Rose and Chris Prater at the Kelpra Press.There is a small brown spot in the top left corner and a very light / soft vertical fold through the image, otherwise in very good condition.Image size 560 x 530 mm (21.5 x 25 inches)Sheet size 785 x 740 mm Derrick Greaves was an instant success. He was still a student when he had his first solo show at Helen Lessore s famous Beaux Arts Gallery, London, in 1953. Then the leading gallery for young figurative painters, the Beaux Arts was responsible for seminal exhibitions of, among others, Craigie Aitchison, Michael Andrews, Frank Auerbach, Francis Bacon, John Bratby, Jeffrey Camp, Edward Middleditch, Jack Smith, and Euan Uglow. Held at the same time as a selection of recent paintings by Francis Bacon (Greaves showed upstairs and Bacon downstairs), Greaves first exhibition gained enthusiastic coverage from the leading critics of the day including Stephen Bone in the Manchester Guardian, John Russell in the Sunday Times, Neville Wallis in the Observer and John Berger in the New Statesman by James Hayman in Derrick Greaves From Kitchen-Sink to Shangri-La , 2007.
