Complete set of 2 matching Satire print about an Innocent landing in England: The Invasion. The invasion army of Louis XV during embarkation against England in 1756, reinforced by water soup (ranks) and frogs (officer), all enthused for the standard, however, by the promise "VENGENCE et le BON BIER et BON BEUF de ANGLETERRE" and by which the English soldiers and fresh recruits on the other side of the channel just support their defense powers. The second plate: "See John the Soldier, Jack the Tar . Should Mounsir dare come here! / The Hungry Slaves have smelt our Food / They long to taste our Flesh and Blood / Old England's Beef and Beer !". Copperplate engraving and etching on a thick vellin type paper. Description: Unknown collection of engravings after Hogarth. We estimate this to be an earlier edition print by Riepenhausen, c. 1820.Artists and Engravers: The engraver is Ernst Ludwig Riepenhausen (1765-1840) after William Hogarth (1697-1764). The German engraver Riepenhausen was well respected for his engravings after Hogarth, often preferred to those by Hogarth himself. Condition: Fine.
