3 Antique prints, titled: 'XXIX - Leicester's hospital and the west gate Warwick' - (with: 'Saint Mary's church', 'Leycester Hospital, Warwick'). A street scene with a shepherd leading a flock past the Hospital of Leicester, toward the gate. Several mothers with children and a man in conversation with two women are also depicted. Drypoint etching and engraving on Wove (vellin) and Japanese paper. Description: F.G. Fleay: 'The land of Shakespeare'. London: Bumpus 1889. This book was printed in an edition of 300 copies on antique paper and 20 copies on Japanese paper. Artists and Engravers: Made by 'John MacPherson' after own design. The smaller engravings often signed 'Dawson sc.' (engraved by Dawson), and most are also monogrammed J.MP. or MacPherson (who designed the illustrations and etched the main plates). Condition: Excellent, given age. Some spots in margin. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
