The image size is ca. 11 x 15.9 inch.Antique drawing, untitled. Original 19th c. drawing of the Old Canal in Utrecht with the City Hall. After a lithograph from: 'Sketches made in Flanders and Germany and drawn on stone by Samuel Prout.', published in London, 1833. Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Augusta Faithorne' after 'Samuel Prout'. We were not able to find information on the artist Augusta Faithorne(?). Samuel Prout (1783 - 1852) was one of the masters of British watercolour architectural painting. Prout secured the position of Painter in Water-Colours in Ordinary to King George IV in 1829 and afterwards to Queen Victoria. Prout is often compared to his contemporaries. Turner, Gainsborough, Constable and Ruskin, whom he taught.Condition: Good, given age. Sheet with pencil drawing attached to thick carrier, with unclear signature of artist written with ink onto carrier at bottom left. Carrier sheet with some nicks and a tear at bottom right not effecting drawing. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling.
