Antique emblem print, page 206, captioned: Nec segnior altera cura est Antipodium (The loving rays reach no pillars). It shows: the sun coming up from the sea, between two pillars. It signifies that although the Society is small, its reach is long enough to encompass the entire world. This emblem is set within an ornamental border. Copperplate engraving and text on verge type hand laid paper. Text front and rear. Description: This rare authentic old antique print / plate originates from: 'Afbeeldinghe van d'eerste eeuwe der Societeyt Iesu voor ooghen ghestelt door de Duyts-Nederlantsche Provincie der selver Societeyt.' (transl.: Images of the first century of Jesuits presented by the German-Netherlands Province of said Society.), by Jean Bollandus ao., published by Plantijn/Plantin, Antwerp, 1640. This work was translated by Laurentius Uwens from the latin ed., published in the same year: 'Imago primi saeculi societatis Iesu .' The famous centennial publication of the Low Countries Jesuits, containing beautiful emblematic engravings.Artists and Engravers: Authors: Johannes Bolland (1596-1665), Jean de Tollenaere (1582-1643), Sidronius de Hossche (1596-1653), Jacques van de Walle (1599-1690), Philip Fruytiers (1610-1666).
