Antique print. It shows: an engraved headpiece, showing a lesson in horse anatomy. A group of cavalry men is gathered around a table on which the lecturer treats the horse's skull, showing the top half and a jaw. Original etching/engraving on a verge type handlaid paper. Description: This print originates from: Francois Robichon de la Guerniere's 'Ecole de Cavalerie. Contenant la connoissance, l'instruction, et la conservation du cheval.' (Paris: Collombat, 1733). This is an important French book on the training and riding of the horse, detailing equitation, veterinary treatment, and general horsemanship. It has become an important text for the Spanish Riding School of Vienna.Artists and Engravers: Engraved by B. Audran after Ch. Parrocel. Benoit Audran the Younger (1698-1772) was a reknown French engraver. He was the son and pupil of Jean Audran, and engraved in the same manner as his father. Charles Parrocel (1688-1752) was a French painter and engraver, specialised in battle and hunting scenes. Condition: Fair, given age. A tear in the sheet, from the left top margin toward the center of the sheet. This tear has formerly been treated using (sello)tape on the rear, which caused a stain around the repair. It has now been treated with acid-free archival tape. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor soiling from handling. Please study scan carefully.
