Antique print, untitled. Italianate Arcadian landscape with a mansion on the left, behind a tree in front of a pond. Next to the pond are two figures with a pack animal. Etching/engraving on hand laid paper. Description: From a series published by P. Mariette.Artists and Engravers: Made by G. Perrelle after own design. Gabriel Perelle (1604-1677) was a French draftsman and printmaker of topographic views and landscapes. He was a pupil of Simon Vouet and Daniel Rabel. He founded an etching workshop, and his sons Nicolas and Adam assisted him. He produced several hundred engravings both from his own drawings and from those of his competitors Israel Silvestre, Paul Bril, Jacques Callot, Michel Corneille the Elder, Pierre Asselin,Jacques Fouquieres, Corneille Poelembourg, and Sebastien Pontault de Beaulieu. These etchings / engravings depict landscapes of the Paris region, mocked up with ruins and various fantasy elements. Condition: Very good, given age. Margins cropped to the image edge. A crease in the caption below the image. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
