Antique Master Print, untitled. This print shows a design for a gate / entry into a building with several figures in the foreground. Etching on hand laid (verge) paper. Description: Published by Pierre Mariette (1626 - 1696) around 1650.Artists and Engravers: Made by 'le Potre' after own design. Jean le Pautre / Lepautre / Le Potre / Lepotre (1618-1682) was a French designer and engraver. Le Pautre was an apprentice to a carpenter and builder. In addition to learning mechanical and constructive work, he developed considerable skill with the pencil. His designs, innumerable in quantity and exuberant in content, consisted mainly of ceilings, friezes, chimney-pieces, doorways and mural decorations. He also devised fire-dogs, sideboards, cabinets, console tables, mirrors and other pieces of furniture. Condition: Good, given age. Trimmed close to image. A few small stains in print. Some pencil and crayon writing / drawing on rear. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
