Antique Master Print, titled: 'La Charite - Giving Alms - Freundlicher Uberfall.' - Two richly dressed people in the forest give alms to a large group of gypsy beggars. The gypsy waggon is visible to the left, while to the right a horseman beats a man. Etching on Chine-collee on wove (vellin) paper. Description: Published by Boussod Valadon & Co. and Goupil Cie. in 1893. Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Goupil & Cie' after 'Paul Meyerheim'. Goupil & Cie was a leading art dealership in Paris in the 19th century. They established a worldwide trade in fine art reproductions. Paul Friedrich Meyerheim (1842-1915) was a German painter and graphic artist. While he produced landscapes and portraits, he is best known as a painter of animals. Condition: Very good, given age. Some paper erosion in the top margin, not effecting image. Margins a little discoloured. A closed tear in the left margin. The lower left corner restored, using acid-free archival tape to the rear to reattach the corner. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling.
