Antique Master Print, untitled. A forest landscape with two men on horseback and a foot servant passing through. Etching/engraving on hand laid (verge) paper. Description: Probably from an ed. published by Ottens. Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Anthonie Waterloo' after an anonymous artist. The renowned artist/engraver Anthonie Waterloo (1609-1690) was born in Lille, but his family moved to Amsterdam probably to escape religious persecution. He was a painter and etcher and famous for his landscapes (136 items). He developed his own style, probably as an auto-didact. Although Waterloo traveled widely, many of his landscapes were probably imagined in the workshop and were influenced by the work of other landscapists. Condition: Very good, given age. Tiny tear in left top, reinforced using contemporary paper backed with acid free archival tape. Weak spots in the top corners of the image, where it was glued to a carrier.
