A Roman city on the cliff above. Published by R. Pollard, London, 1803. Artists and Engravers: Made by F. Bartolozzi, J. Fittler and R. Pollard after G. Poussin. Francesco Bartolozzi (1728-1815) was an Italian engraver, born in Florence. He moved to London in 1764, where he was a founding member of the Royal Academy. Robert I Pollard (1755-1838) was an English engraver and painter. At first Pollard was articled to a watch-smith, and then became a pupil of Richard Wilson. For a time he practised as a landscape and marine painter, but in 1781 he moved to London, worked as an engraver for the printseller John Harris, and established himself in a studio in Spa Fields, London. James Fittler (1758-1835) was an English engraver of portraits and landscapes and book illustrator. He was Marine Engraver to King George III. Gaspard Dughet (1615-1675), also named Gaspard Poussin / Le Guaspre was a French painter born in Rome. He was a pupil of Nicolas Poussin and the brother of Poussin's wife.Condition: Excellent, given age. Margins cropped to the image edge (keeping the caption below the image intact).
