Vermeeren (not in Lugt) and duplicate Printroom Leiden (Lugt 700B) Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Ernst Willem Jan Bagelaar' after own design. Ernst Willem Jan Bagelaar (1775-1837) was born in Eindhoven. He first entered the army, but early acquired a liking for the fine arts, and instructed himself in etching. He studied the arts by travelling through Germany and staying in Paris. Many of his etchings are based on his own designs. He had a liking of Jan Luyken, of whom he possessed a considerable collection of drawings. Condition: Good, given age. Ample margins. Some foxing in the margins.
