Antique print, titled: 'S. Philippus', Portrait of Philip the Apostle, holding a book and a cross. Engraving on wove (velin) paper. Description: A reduced version of this print (to ca. half size) was used in Spanoghe's 'Aldernouwkeurigste Verhandelinge der Geschiedenissen van het Oud Testament' (1784). The source of this version is unknown, published ca. 1645.Artists and Engravers: Made by Franciscus vanden Enden after Gerardus Segers. Gerard Seghers (Dutch 1591-1651). Franciscus van den Enden (1602-1674) was a Jesuit, Neo-Latin poet, art dealer, philosopher and plotter against Louis XIV. He was the teacher of Baruch de Spinoza. He ran an art shop in Amsterdam from 1645 to ca. 1650. Condition: Good, given age. Margins cropped to the image edge. Right edge remargined using contemporary paper.
