Antique Master Print, titled: 'Gerbrandus van Leeuwen' - Antique print shows a portrait of Gerbrandus van Leeuwen, who was a professor of theology in Amsterdam. Mezzotint engraving on hand laid paper. Description: Published by Pieter van Opoeteren ca. 1695. Provenance: Two ink stamps on the verso: Staedtisches Museum zu Leipzig & Abgegeben v. Museum […] Leipzig.Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Jacob Gole' after an anonymous artist. Jacob Gole (ca. 1660-1737) belonged to a group of French refugees who came to the Northern Netherlands in the end of the 17th. Century. He worked in close collaboartion with Cornelis Dusart and specialized in the making of mezzotints. Condition: Excellent, given age. Remains of attachment to carrier to the rear of the sheet. A horizontal crease over the middle of the sheet (flattened and hardly visible). Margins cropped close to the platemark. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling.
