Antique Master Print, titled: 'Spes et Patientia.' - ('Spes and Patientia'). The Roman goddesses of Hope and Patience/Endurance in clouds. Spes has an attribute Anchor, while Patientia is chained to a brick. Etching/engraving on hand laid (verge) paper. Description: Source unknown, to be determined. Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Samuel Bottschild' after own design. Samuel Bottschild (1641-1706) was a German painter, draughtsman, graphic artist and writer on art. He was a son and pupil of Andreas Bottschild II (c. 1590-1657), a painter and engraver, who decorated churches in Sangerhausen. Samuel had further training with his brother Johann Andreas Bottschild (b 1630; d after 1670), with whom he went to Saxony. He was active as a decorative painter. He made a small number of very fine and loosely etched prints. Condition: Very good, given age. A fold running through the middle.
