Rustic interior with mother sitting on a chair and looking after her three children. Published by Huquier in June 1738 and given a long review in the Mercure (p.1163). It was announced as a pair to La belle cuisiniere, by Pierre Aveline, advertised in April 1735. Considered one of the best plates after Boucher. Artists and Engravers: Made by Soubeyran after Fr. Boucher. Pierre Soubeyran. Pierre Soubeyran (Geneve 1709-1775) was a Swiss engraver. After his studies under Georg Friedrich Schmidt in Paris, he soon established himself as a skilled engraver, and furthered the progress of colour printing. Francois Boucher (1703-1770) was a French painter, who was a proponent of the Rococo style. Boucher is known for his idyllic and voluptuous paintings on classical themes, decorative allegories, and pastoral scenes. He was perhaps the most celebrated decorative artist of the 18th century.Condition: Good, given age. Crease in middle of print. A little restored tear in right margin and print, remargined using contemporary paper backed with acid free archival tape. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling.
