Portrait of Sir Gawen Carew (Gawin Carow), who belonged to the court of Henry VIII in England. Stipple engraving on vellin type paper. The colouring is done on the copper plate (a la poupée), so the colours are actually printed. This is done in a very delicate manner. The result is of rarely equaled quality! The colour paper chosen mimics the paper used by Holbein on the original drawings. Engraved in Imitation of the Original Drawings of Hans Holbein, in the Collection of his Majesty.", with Biographical and Historical memoirs by Edmund Lodge, Esq.
