Antique print, titled: 'Pugno pro Patria.' - (Fight for my country.) Allegorical print that deals conquest, looting and trade of the Dutch nation in the 17th. C. The figures represent the Dutch United Provinces counting the spoils got at sea expanding their power. In the middle a Greek figure and Hermes. Etching on hand laid paper. Description: "Spiegel van Staat des Vereenigde Nederlands .", Amsterdam: Jan ten Hoorn, 1706.Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Romeyn de Hooghe' after own design. Romeyn de Hooghe (1645-1708) was an important and prolific late Dutch Baroque engraver and caricaturist. De Hooghe was skilled as an etcher, draughtsman, painter, sculptor and medalist. He is best known for political caricatures of Louis XIV and propagandistic prints supporting William of Orange. During his career, de Hooghe produced over 3500 prints. He also illustrated books, and his illustrations can be found in some of the most important texts of his period. Condition: Very good, given age. A few wormholes in lower left text part, backed with contemporary paper backed with acid free archival tape. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling.
