Antique print, titled: 'Mensis October.' - Allegory to month October: A man preserves a hare in a stoppered vase. At his feet a bowl of acorns and behind him a quail. Colored etching / engraving on hand laid paper. Description: From the series "Ausonii Tetrastichon [Tetrastichs of Ausonius]" (12 Months of the Year). Each of the prints is accompanied by a short Latin poem by Decimus Magnus Ausonius (c. 310-c. 395).Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Jan van Vianen' after an anonymous artist. Jan van Vianen (1660-after 1726) was a Dutch printmaker and draughtsman, born in Amsterdam. Condition: Excellent, given age. Some small stains and general discolouration in the margins. Left margin dampstained. Remains of attachment to carrier to the top edge. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
