Original antique print, titled: ''Quand a la Gribouillette Amour repend ses fleches; Elles frapent les coeurs, mais n'I font point de breches''. It is numbered t. II, p. 195. It shows: a fantasy scene with Amor in a chariot, testing the point of one of her arrows. Next to her a winged male figure empties her quiver, while a putto pushes the chariot. Original etching/engraving on handlaid (verge) paper. Description: This original print originates from a work by Basan: 'Dictionnaire des graveurs anciens et modernes depuis l'origine de la gravure', published in Paris in 1767, and again in 1789. This work contained numerous engravings, some of which were copies made by Basan, others original plates. It was published by Basan in 1767.Artists and Engravers: Artist: B. Picart. Engraver: P. Surugue. Published by: Basan, in 1767. Pierre-Francois Basan (Paris 1723-1797) is a French engraver. He was a pupil of Etienne Fessard and Jean Daulle. He was principally occupied as a printseller, and published a 'Dictionnaire des Graveurs' in 1767. Condition: Very good, given age. Margins stained.
