This plate shows a game of chess being played in the French Castle of Plessis-les-Tours. Original lithograph. Description: This attractive original old antique print / plate originates from: 'Moeurs, Usages et Costumes au Moyen Age et a l'Epoque de la Renaissance.' (Customs, habits and costumes of the Middle Ages and Renaissance.), by Paul Lacroix, published in Paris, France, 4th. ed. 1874. First ed. from 1868.Artists and Engravers: Paul Lacroix (1806-1884), French author and journalist. He is best known under his pseudonym of P.L. Jacob, bibliophile, or Bibliophile Jacob. The lithographs are by F. Kellerhoven. Condition: Excellent, given age. Top margin a little discoloured. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling.
