This original print shows: fighting within the interior of a church, possibly relating to the Tartars in Russia. While panicking priests are visible in the background, multiple figures with swords, daggers and hatchets are disturbing the service. Etching/engraving on a verge type handlaid paper. Philip van Gunst (1685-1732) was a Dutch engraver, mainly of portraits, but also of Biblical and Mythological scenes. Joseph Mulder (1658-1728) was a Dutch engraver, known for his work on Maria Merian's 'Metamorphosis Insectorum Surinamensium'. Condition: Very good given age. Margins cropped.
