Antique print, titled: 'Tekening , plan en doorsnede van een dubbele Praauw van het eiland Amsterdam [.].' - This print shows the drawing, plan and cross-section of a proa of Amsterdam Island. Amsterdam Island was discovered by Abel Tasman in 1643 and named as such because of it's abundance of supplies. It is now named Tongatapu, the main island of the Kingdom of Tonga. Engraving on handlaid paper. Description: From a Dutch edition of Cook's voyages, published c. 1795.Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Anonymous' after an anonymous artist. Source and engraver to be determined. Condition: Very good, given age. Original folds as issued. Small binding hole in left margin.
