Antique print, untitled. Two designs for chimney pieces as one image. Etching on wove paper. Description: This rare antique print originates from 'Ornements - Vases et Decorations d'apres les maitres' by Auguste Pequegnot. Published in Paris ca. 1858. The prints are of a wide variety of architectural, sculptural, and decorative arts, finely etched or engraved by Pequegnot after such famous artists as Raphael, Durer, Boucher, Watteau, Berain, Guido Reni, Daniel Marot, etc. Together they are a compendium of architectural ornament from the Renaissance through Louis XIV, XV, and XVI periods, ending with the French Empire of the early 19th Century. . Subjects included various decorative images of vases, fountains, furniture, etc.Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Auguste Pequegnot' after 'Jean Lepautre'. Auguste Pequegnot (1819-1878) worked as painter, etcher and designer. Jean le Pautre / Lepautre (1618-1682) was a French designer and engraver. Le Pautre was an apprentice to a carpenter and builder. In addition to learning mechanical and constructive work, he developed considerable skill with the pencil. His designs, innumerable in quantity and exuberant in content, consisted mainly of ceilings, friezes, chimney-pieces, doorways and mural decorations. He also devised fire-dogs, sideboards, cabinets, console tables, mirrors and other pieces of furniture. Condition: Good, given age. Ample margins, creasing in the lower right and a little browned.
