Title: 'Brabantia ducatus'. Hertogdom Brabant. West above. Degree distribution in edge. In map: bottom left cartouche, decorated with the arms of Brabant, text Brabantia Ducatus; bottom right scale. Copperplate engraving on a verge type of hand laid paper. Description: This original antique map originates from 'Topographia Germaniae Inferioris' by Caspar Merian, published in Frankfurt, 1659.Artists and Engravers: Caspar Merian (1627-1686) was on of the most important cartographers of the baroque period. He was the son and students of Matthaus Merian the Elder. After the death of his father, he managed the publishing house his father started, together with his brother Matthaus the Younger. Thus, many of the stunning works their father left unfinished could be published, including the 'Topographia Germaniae Inferioris' from which the present map originates.
