Antique print, titled: 'Ondankbaarheids loon.' - ('The wage of ungratefulness'). A man and a woman are speaking at the gate to a pen in which fowl are kept. A peacock sits on the fence and pigeons fly around a dovecot to the left. Etching on hand laid paper. Description: From "Leerzame Zinnebeelden" by Adriaan Spinneker, probably a 1757 edition. Most of the refined plates are by painter and etcher Vincent van der Vinne Jr (1686-1742), although J.C. Philips is given as the etcher of 4 plates in the second part of this book. The author of this work is Adriaan Spinniker (Groningen 1676-1754 Haarlem). He was a preacher with the doopsgezinde gemeente in Amsterdam. He is known for his poetry. Condition: Good, given age. A small wormhole in the right edge of the image. Margins cropped close to the platemark. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
