The image size is ca. 14.3 x 11.6 inch.Antique print, titled: 'De Boeren rechtbank, te Puiterveen. - Le Barreau des Paisans, a Puiterveen.' - The Farmers Court of Puiterveen. Crying Fobert and his father (to the left) in front of the farmers court of Puiterveen, with the pregnant Swaantje between Jonker Jan and her parents. Swaantje was made pregnant by the son of Mr. van Puijterveen, but Fobert is accused of this act. The corrupt lawyer of Fobert is speking while the opponent's lawyer listens. Behind the table are notables. Scene from the third act of the play "Besligte Swaantje, en Droog Fobert. Of de Boere Rechtbank", by Abraham Alewijn. This plate was originally published as part of: 'Tafereelen uit het burgelijke leven van de Hollanders in de achttiende eeuw door Cornelis Troost.', (Transl.: Scenes from the daily life of the citizens of Holland in the 18th c. by Cornelis Troost.), published by E. Maaskamp, Amsterdam, 1811. This magnificent and very scarse series of 32 scenes show satiric views of the Netherlands. This plate individually published by P. Fouquet, Amstersdam c. 1811.Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Pieter Tanje' after 'Cornelis Troost'. Pieter Tanje (1706-1761) was an 18th century Dutch engraver from the Northern Netherlands. He specialised in highly finished book illustrations. Cornelis Troost (1696-1750) was an 18th-century actor and painter from Amsterdam. He gave up his acting career for painting in 1723 when he became the pupil of Arnold Boonen.Condition: Good, given age. Original middle fold, as issued. Overall soiling. Slight paper surface erosion, partivularly along fold. Rust stain at bottom. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling.
