Published in Paris by Librairie Generale de l'Architecture et des travaux Publics - Ducher & Cie, 1877. Daly's actual professional practice was mainly confined to the restoration of the cathedral of Alby at Tarn. In 1839 he founded the 'Revue generale de l'architecture'. He also spent three years in the Americas, and in 1856 was the first to note several important pre-Columbian ruins. This work is considered one of his most important publications [see: STURGIS Vol. I, pp. 733-744].
