Beschreibung
'24'This antique print depicts a scene of early artillery transportation. It shows two horses harnessed side by side, being led by a man who holds a long rod or whip. Each horse is equipped with what appears to be 18th-century tack and harness, including decorative elements and possibly armored chest pieces.Behind the horses, there is a large cannon mounted on a two-wheeled carriage. The wheels of the carriage are quite large, almost reaching the height of the horses, and have substantial spokes, indicating a design for bearing heavy loads. Another figure stands at the rear of the cannon, seemingly gesturing or giving commands, possibly an artillery officer. The detail of the print is quite intricate, showing the textures of the horses' manes, the folds in the men's clothing, and the construction of the cannon and carriage. The shadows and the use of perspective give the scene a three-dimensional quality. The scene is presented in a balanced composition, with attention to the lines of the harness and the carriage, leading the viewer's eye across the print from left to right. The print is from an encyclopedia, illustrating the methods of moving heavy artillery of the period. The style of the etching is consistent with prints from the Renaissance to the early modern period in Europe, where such detailed depictions were common for educational and record-keeping purposes.Made by an anonymous engraver/artist.Medium: Engraving on hand laid (verge) paper.Sheet size: 39 x 8.5 cm (15.35 x 3.35 inch).
