Antique print, titled: 'Afbeelding van den Predikstoel, in de Nieuwe Kerke.' - Elements of the interior of the New Church in Amsterdam: the preacher's pulpit with an hourglass. Engraving / etching on hand laid (verge) paper. Description: From: 'Amsterdam, In Zyne Opkomst, Aanwas, Geschiedenissen, Voorregten, Koophandel, Gebouwen, Kerkenstaat, Schoolen, Schutterye, Gilden En Regeeringe.' Published 1760 - 1767.Artists and Engravers: Made by 'J. Goeree' after an anonymous artist. Jan Goeree was the son of the Middelburg bookseller Willem Goeree. Born in Middelburg, but soon they moved to Amsterdam. Initially he focussed on painting, assumably a student of Gerard de Lairesse. But he is best known for his engraving skills, depicting mosttly emblematic and historic scenes. In 1705 he was commisioned by the Mayor of Amsterdam to design the drawings for the ceiling paintings for the grand hall of the old city hall, which were then painted by J. Hoogzaat and G. Rademaker. He died January 4, 1731. Condition: Very good, given age. Light foxing. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
