Size in inch: The overall size is ca. 5.7 x 8.8 inch. The image size is ca. 3.5 x 5.7 inch.Plate: ''Nieuwe Hebriden.'' (Inhabitants of the New Hebrides Islands, Melanesia.) New Hebrides was the colonial name for an island group in the South Pacific that now forms the nation of Vanuatu. The New Hebrides were colonized by both the British and French in the 18th century shortly after Captain James Cook visited the islands. The two countries eventually signed an agreement making the islands an Anglo-French condominium, which lasted from 1906 until 1980, when the New Hebrides gained their independence as Vanuatu. This scarse engraved plate originates from: 'De mensch, zoo als hij voorkomt op den bekenden aardbol beschreven door Martinus Suart, afgebeeld door Jacques Kuyper.', 1st ed. in 6 parts, published by Johannes Allart, Amsterdam, 1802. This famous anthropological work was 'the first Dutch treatise on geographical anthropology. Quite a few plates are after the travel accounts of Captain Cook, La P� � rouse, Carver, Levaillant, etc.' (Landwehr).Artists and Engravers: Author: Martinus Stuart (Dutch preacher, historian: 1765-1826). Engraved by Louis Portman after Jacques Kuyper.Condition: Very good, given age. Some remains of binding in left margin. General age related toning. Occasional very light staining in margins only. We ship worldwide and package our items meticulously. We carry an umbrella insurance policy. Our shipment rates are based on shipments up to 1 kg. For heavier shipments we will contact you with a quote. Currently our surcharge for international shipments over 1 kg is 9,14 euro / kg. In addition POST NL temporarly charges 3,60 euro per kg due to CORONA related logistics. We ship by registered mail through POST NL.
