Original engraving and etching combination on a verge type hand laid paper. on paper. Size in cm: The overall size is ca. 8.5 x 10 cm. The image size is ca. 7 x 8.5 cm. Size in inch: The overall size is ca. 3.3 x 3.9 inch. The image size is ca. 2.8 x 3.3 inch.Plate 1: 'Patriarch Dominus Theodosius Zygomalas - Irene Mischini.' This plate shows the named Greek Christian couple, dressed up in wedding dress in the year 1578. Theodosios Zygomalas was a Greek Theologist and Historian (1544 - nach 1614). This very scarse original old antique print / plate originates from: 'Ritualis Ecclesiastici .' (Rituals from all over the world), by Caspare Calvor, published by Johann Christoph Konig, Jenae, 1705. This work describes religious ceremonies in the world (China, Japan, America, Europe). The engravings show temples, idols, service-dress and costumes during marriage, baptism and funeral ceremonies.Artists and Engravers: The author of this work is the Lutheran German theologist Caspar Calvor (Hildesheim 1650 - 1725 Clausthal). He studied in Jena and Helmstedt. He became a Diakon in Zellerfeld and in 1684 Superintendent and Konsistorialrat. He frequently exchanged letters with important scientists like Leibniz a.o. He educated the young composer G. P. Telemann. The plates in this work are engraved by J.G. Mentiel.Condition: Fine. General age related toning and occasional light staining as visible on image.
