Antique print, titled: 'Vue des jardins de l' empereur a Peking.' - This print shows a View of the gardens of the emperor Peking, with temple and public. Engraving on hand laid paper. "Description: No. 2 from the atlas volume of: 'Voyages a Peking, Manille et l'Ile de France (…)1784-1801.' by Chretien-Louis-Joseph de Guignes, published by Treuttel et Wurtz. In Paris, 1808. RareArtists and Engravers: Made by 'Jacques Eustache de Seve' after 'Chretien-Louis-Joseph de Guignes'. Jacques Eustache de Seve (1742 - 1788) was the main artist commissioned by Buffon for his "Histoire Naturelle, Générale et Particulière" (1749-1760). He was one of the first artists to use complete scenes including landscape backgrounds, which influenced later natural history illustrators. Chretien-Louis-Joseph de Guignes (? 1759-1845), a French merchant-trader and sinologist." Condition: Good, given age. Faint soiling in the margin.
