Antique print, titled: 'Tom 1, 2e lecon pl. 1.' - Fig 1-3. These images all show scientific instruments related to pneumatics. This original print originates from 'Lecons de physique experimentale', originally published in Paris by Guerin Freres in 6 volumes, 1745-1764. This plate is from a 1759 Dutch ed. Engraving on hand laid paper. Made by an anonymous engraver after 'Jean Antoine Nollet '. Jean Antoine Nollet (1700-1770) was a French clergyman and physicist. Nollet was particularly interested in the new science of electricity, which he explored with the help of Du Fay and Reaumur. He joined the Royal Society of London in 1734 and later became the first professor of experimental physics at the University of Paris. He is considered 'the father of physics' in France. He is reputed to have given the name to the Leyden jar after it was invented by Pieter van Musschenbroek. Very good, given age. Original fold and creases. Small stain in lower margin. Margins cropped close to the plate mark. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully. The overall size is ca. 13.9 x 15.6 cm.
