(10,7 x 13,2 inch).Source unknown, to be determined.Made by 'Jean George Wille' after 'Gabriel Metzu'. Jean George Wille (BIEBERTAL, 1715 - PARIS, 1808) was a German, French engraver. He had by 1755 gained French citizenship and membership in the Académie Royale. Appointed an Academician in 1761, Wille stopped producing portrait engravings soon afterward, his failing eyesight not allowing him to work on portraits with his usual meticulous technique. As 'graveur du roi' and also engraver to the King of Denmark and the Emperor of Germany, Wille s reputation reached its peak in the years before the French Revolution. His studio in Paris was a centre of printmaking and a meeting place for artists, collectors and dealers, and he was himself active in the art trade. Gabriël Metsu (1629 1667) was a Dutch painter of history paintings, still lifes, portraits, and genre works. He was "a highly eclectic artist, who did not adhere to a consistent style, technique, or one type of subject for long periods." Only 14 of his 133 works are dated.Condition: Good, given age. good, image itself not effected, tears at all sides restored with museumtape, but still visible in margin pieces of paper missing below and filled in the reverse with old paper, drop of glue in margin near the arm of the maid, some small holes in text margin and one in foot of the rabbit, piece of upper right corner missing, no margin.
