Antique print, titled: 'Matths. Van Geuns.' - A portrait of Matthias Jansz van Geuns (1758 - 1839), a Dutch Mennonite teacher and minister. Engraving on hand laid paper. Description: This original antique print originates from 'Vaderlandsche Historie vervattende de geschiedenissen der nu Vereenigde Nederlanden' bij Jan Wagenaar and was published ca. 1790.Artists and Engravers: Made by 'Rein Vinkeles' after an anonymous artist. Reinier Vinkeles (Amsterdam; 1741-1816), was an 18th-century painter and engraver from the Northern Netherlands, who was the later teacher of several talented artists. He studied for some ten years with Jan Punt and joined the Amsterdam Stadstekenacademie (City Drawing School) in 1762. In 1770 he left for Paris, where he studied for a year with Jacques-Philippe Le Bas. Condition: Good, given age. Light staining in the margins, not affecting image. Surface damage in the right top margin and image edge. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
