Antique print, titled: 'Nicolas Bacon .' - Portrait of Sir Nicholas Bacon, (1510 1579) who was an English politician during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I of England, notable as Lord Keeper of the Great Seal. He was the father of the philosopher and statesman Sir Francis Bacon. Engraving on hand laid paper. Description: Source unknown, to be determined. Pieter Stevensz. van Gunst (ca. 1659-1731), also known as Petrus Stephani, was a Dutch draughtsman, engraver and print publisher, active in Amsterdam, in London in 1704 and in Nederhorst in 1730-1731. Many Museums hold his work. Adriaen van der Werff 1659 1722 was an accomplished Dutch painter of portraits and erotic, devotional and mythological scenes. His brother, Pieter van der Werff 1661 1722, was his principal pupil and assistant. Condition: Good, given age. Light soiling and creasing. A few thin paper spots.
