Plate : 'Cardinal Allen, Archbishop of Mechlin'. This plate shows a portrait of William Allen (1532 - 1594), he was an English Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church. Allen assisted in the planning of the Spanish Armada's attempted invasion of England, and would likely have been made Archbishop of Canterbury and Lord Chancellor had it been successful. Stipple engraving on a vellin type paper. Description: This original antique print was published by Fisher, Son & Co. in London ca. 1840.Artists and Engravers: This plate engraved by J. Jenkins after Sir Thomas Lawrence. Condition: Good. General age-related toning and light staining. Please study scan carefully.
