In the foreground a woman dressed in rags, and raising a purse with a hole in it, receives a dome-shaped object from a person to the right (beehive?). In the left background a richly dressed man rides on the back of a servant. From: 'La Doctrine des Moeurs [â ¦]' printed by Louys Sevestre for Pierre Daret, Paris, 1646. First edition. Author: Marin le Roy de Gomberville. Made by order of Mazarin for the instruction of the young Louis XIV. The plates are copies in reverse after Otto van Veen's emblems in 'Q. A stain in the lower margin, not affecting image. A crease in the lower right, just ouside image area. A small spot of paper loss in the left margin.
