Antique print, titled: 'La course des tetes & de la Bague', the various forms used in ring tilt and other equestrian competitions from the eighteenth century. This included spearing a Medusa head (Tete de Medusa) on a lance, passing a lance through a ring, shooting a pistol while riding, etc. Etching/engraving on hand laid (verge) paper, with watermark. Watermark not visible on every sheet. Description: This print originates from the 8vo (octavo) edition of Fancois Robichon de Guerniere's 'Ecole de Cavalerie contenant La Connoissance, l'Instruction, et la Conservation du Cheval'. This edition was published in 1769 in Paris. We also stock plates from the earlier (1733) quarto edition of the same work.Artists and Engravers: Drawn and engraved by C. Parrocel. Charles Parrocel (1688-1752) was a French painter and engraver, specialised in battle and hunting scenes. Condition: Very good, given age. Two original folds, as issued. Paper erosion and remains of binding in the left margin. Margins minimally soiled. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully.
