Antique print, untitled. A sailing ship on a stormy sea near the coast. A ruined tower and a monastery in the background. From the set of ten marine landscapes, published in 1701. Engraving (with modern handcolouring) on hand laid (verge) paper. Made by 'Ludolf Bakhuizen' after own design. Ludolf Backhuysen/Bakhuizen (1631-1708) was a Dutch painter and draftsman. He was strongly influenced by Willem van de Velde de Jonge. He painted harbour, marine scenes and ships. He is famous for his depictions of stormy seas and shipwrecks. He painted many scenes of Dutch maritime / marine history. Good, given age. Ample margins, a little uneven. A crease from the top margin a little into the image, approx. 1,5 cm. A small tear in the top edge of the image, consolidated with acid free tape. General age-related toning and/or occasional minor defects from handling. Please study scan carefully. The overall size is ca. 19.7 x 25.9 cm. The image size is ca. 16 x 20 cm. The overall size is ca. 7.8 x 10.2 inch. The image size is ca. 6.3 x 7.9 inch. Storage location: C270-46.
